Diva Goes Bouclé is a super feminine and simple, yet short jacket or cardigan. I’ve sought inspiration in the Japanese simplicity with few, but beautiful details.

The pattern includes 2 versions: a version without puffed shoulders and a version with a slightly puffed shoulder – both versions feature saddle shoulders.

You can choose to knit the jacket longer. We are all different in height and body type, so I’ve included a guide for yarnage required to lengthen the jacket by 15 cm intervals.

The jacket is knitted flat holding 2 strands of Isager Bouclé together with 1 strand of Isager Silk Mohair. The jacket is exclusively worked in knit stitch – however, the sleeves also feature purl stitch on every other row to achieve the garter stitch look. The pattern also suggests alternative yarn.

The jacket is knitted flat top down on needles 6 mm and features short rows on the back. I have chosen the most beautiful buttons from Fine Detail, but the jacket can also simply be without buttonholes or with other buttons instead.

The jacket is finish free – except weaving in ends and sewing on buttons. When finishing a ball of yarn, simply spit splice the ends to avoid weaving in the ends.

Please note that my designs usually have a tighter fit the first time you try them on. Afterwards the stitches find their natural position and the fit loosens up and holds its shape. Please note that garter stitch gives quite a bit in length. Therefore, the sleeves are not knitted all the way to the wrists and the length will also change.

Sværhedsgrad
The difficulty depends on how familiar you are with the techniques. See below.

Yarnage
Please note, when knitting with Bouclé we tend to knit a bit different than when knitting with other yarns. The amount of Bouclé yarn required may therefore vary. I’ve given the number of skeins based on the most used yarn for the individual sizes. You may therefore find that you have a spare skein.

Yarnage:
Isager Bouclé. 50 gram = 175 m:
7-8 skeins • 7-8 skeins • 8-9 skeins • 9 skeins • 9-10 skeins • 10 skeins • 10 skeins • 10-11 skeins • 11 skeins • 11-12 skeins

Isager Silk Mohair. 25 gram = 210 meter.
3-4 skeins • 3-4 skeins • 4 skeins • 4 skeins • 4-5 skeins • 4-5 skeins • 5 skeins • 5 skeins • 5skeinsl • 5-6 skeins

The measurements are indicative. The jacket has a relatively tight fit – I recommend a positive ease of 2-6 cm.

Suggestions to alternative yarn:

1 strand of hand dyed Bouclé from ByEmra (170 meters pr 100 g) held together with 1 strand Silk Mohair (210 meters pr 25 g)

or

1 strand Bouclé from Mohair by Canard (170 meters pr 100 g) held together with 1 strand Silk Mohair (210 meters pr 25 g)

When calculating the yarnage for the alternative yarn, you will only need 1 strand of bouclé instead of 2 strands of Isager Bouclé (if you follow my suggestions). This means that for a Medium you will only need 4 skeins of Bouclé and 4 balls of Silk Mohair. You find the number of skeins/balls by dividing the number of Isager Bouclé skeins by 2. The yarnage for the Silk Mohair is the same.

Long version:
To make the jacket a bit tighter in the fabric, I’ve knitted the long version of the jacket holding 2 strands of Isager Boucle held together with 1 strand of Isager Alpaca 1. In this case Alpaca 1 (400 meters pr 50 g) replaces Silk Mohair (212 meters pr 25 g). For every extra 15 cm in length, you will need approx. 2 skeins of Isager Bouclé and just about 1 ball of Isager Silk Mohair. So, if you want 30 cm worth of extra length on the jacket, you will need 4 skeins of Isager Bouclé and approx. 2 balls of Isager Silk Mohair.

Gauge
In garter stitch (knit on both the RS and WS) on needles 6 mm holding 2 strands of Isager Bouclé together with 1 strand of Silk Mohair:
12-12,5 stitches = 10 cm
12-12,5 rows in garter stitch = 10 cm

I recommend knitting a swatch before you start. If the gauge doesn’t fit, and you knit too tight, try using a larger size needle and vice versa, if you knit too loose, try a smaller needle size.

Recommended needles

I recommend ergonomic circular needles from Prym – even for knitting flat. The sleeves are knitted in the round using the Magic Loop method – alternatively you will need circular needles 5 mm and 6 mm, 40 cm.

  • Circular needles 5 mm, 80 cm for the hem
  • Circular needles 6 mm, 80 cm for the body and sleeves

 Furthermore

  • Markers in 2 different colours – approx. 10 markers in each colour
  • 1 long stitch holder – for setting the stitches aside
  • 1 tapestry needle
  • 5-6 buttons, Ø approx. 22 mm (for the long version: 4-5 buttons)

I recommend watching tutorials from Kimmie Munkholm.
